Travel (How to get to Zakopane)
By plane
Balice Airport is the closest airport to Zakopane. Like in many alpine resorts, here also you have to prepare for a short trip with a car or a bus. It takes approximately 2 hours to get from Kraków-Balice to Zakopane.
By railway
The railway travel to Zakopane is certainly picturesque and worthwhile, yet due to the fact that railroad tracks go somewhat oblique way to Zakopane, this mode of transport is less recommended.
By bus
At the present moment the bus trip to Zakopane is the fastest and the cheapest means of transport between Kraków and Zakopane. Buses leave both directions every 30 minutes (from 5 AM till 10 PM), time of travel is about 2 hours.
By car
Arrival from Kraków to Zakopane via the popular "Zakopane highway" takes about 1,5 hours, though traffic jams may occur at high season. Also at wintertime the travel may be slowed down, especially after a major snowfall.
